Egypt’s total production for 2014/2015 is 1.83 tcf, decreasing by 10% from 2013/2015 total production of 2.034 tcf. Average production on the other hand for 2014/2015 has decreased by 28% to reach 4,014 mcf/d, in comparison to 2013/2014’s rate of 5,575 mcf/d.

The Mediterranean area produces 59% of Egypt’s natural gas, followed by the Western Desert at 30%, then the Delta by 9% and finally the Gulf of Suez and Sinai combined represent 2% of the country’s production of natural gas.

On the front of local consumption, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) estimates total local consumption for 2014/2015 to be around 1.66 tcf, with an average daily consumption rate of 4,547 mcf. Consumption levels decreased this fiscal year by 6%, in comparison to natural gas consumption level of 1.765 tcf in 2013/2014.

The electricity sector represents the lion’s share in the country’s consumption patterns. The sector consumed 1.039 tcf in 2014/20115, with a daily average consumption of 2,846 mcf. The industrial sector comes second, representing the 23% of the country’s total consumption. The industrial sector received 379 bcf of natural gas, at a daily consumption rate of 1,038 mcf. The petroleum sector consumed 160 bcf of natural gas in 2014/2015, which represents 9% of the country’s consumption. The transportation and residential sectors combined represent only 2% of Egypt’s natural gas consumption.
